General Questions
1. How does domain leasing work?
- Domain owners import their domains in the system
- Advertisers browse and find premium domains for their business
- Advertisers leases domains
- Traffic from leased domains are pointed to advertiser’s website
Essentially we administer a way for domain owners to provide exclusive advertising on a domain to interested advertisers. We work with both sides to facilitate the lease transaction and protect all interest parties. Any non-leased domains can continue to be monetized using your current method.
2. How can I get started?
- Create an Account (Click here)
- Download the Import Template
- Import Domains
For detailed instructions on importing domains, please login and click Account, then Import Domains.
3. What domains are advertisers most interested in?
Currently, there is a strong demand for niche markets and geographically targeted domains.
There’s always a demand for:
- High-traffic domains (over 1,000+ unique visitors per month)
- Easily branded domains (one to two word dotcoms)
- Geo targeted domains
4. Will your program be focusing exclusively on .com domains?
No, we are accepting all valid TLDs.
5. What is the minimum number of domains required to be eligible to use your services?
Just one.
6. What percentage of the revenue does the domain owner get and who audits the revenue?
The percentage can range from 60% and up based on the total dollar amount of leases per month. No audit is needed since the domain owner knows the lease price and the percentage is in the contract.
7. When is the revenue share negotiable?
It is based on total monthly lease amount.
For example, someone who leases one hundred - $20 domains would be comparable to a person who leases one - $2,000 domain. Once someone crosses over $500 per month in leases, they may contact us for an increase in revenue share.
8. What is the minimum monthly amount that domains can be rented for?
The minimum monthly amount is $20
9. How will the payout take place? Check, Paypal, direct wire and in what time frame?
Any of the above and net 7 from the end of the month of the lease
10. Does the current portfolio of advertisers only originate from the U.S. or other regions/countries as well?
Mostly from the United States but we’ve had inquiries and leases from other countries as well.
11. Will potential advertisers be approached by LeaseThis?
Yes, we have a sales staff and we are continuing to grow. If you have lists of legitimate leads that would be interested in leasing your domains, we are more than happy to follow-up with them.
12. What if I get an offer from someone else to buy the domain during the lease?
The lease is a contract and we have safeguards in place to ensure the domain owner and the advertiser completes the lease. However the domain owner has the option to offer short term leases (month to month) on their domains.
13. Do you give guidance on what we should charge?
Rates are decided by the domain owner. We offer pricing guidelines for domains that have over 100 unique visits a month and if the domain owners are willing to share statistical information.
14. Why are some of the leasing rates so low?
We really try to encourage attractive pricing for advertisers while at the same time increasing the domain owner’s revenue. As time goes on and advertisers begin to see the value of domain traffic we expect the demand and therefore the price to go up. Keep in mind that we have to make it compelling enough for advertisers to try, much like PPC when it started with all bids at a penny.
15. What if you get a serious client looking for a 1-5 and even 10+ year lease? How do you plan to accommodate these?
We have developed the system to anticipate leases beyond the 2 year period, with special approval.
16. How will this service be “potentially” better in terms of revenue vs. participating in a regular PPC program for a domain owner?
Domain owners set the lease price.
17. Is there a specific type of domain (theme) that could benefit the most, in terms of revenue, from your program?
Yes. Advertisers are interested in broad generic domains, Geo-IP, Geo-targeted, and high traffic volume domains.
18. Are expired and dead website domains with traffic accepted?
Yes.
19. Are the lease rates variable or a flat fee?
Variable
20. Are advertisers just building someone else’s brand?
We provide the advertiser with two options, Billboard or Redirect.
21. Who is the beneficiary of the invaluable user usage statistics?
Both the domain owner and the advertiser.
Security Questions
22. How do you protect my domain?
We understand the value of domains and have gone to extensive lengths to protect your assets.
- First we perform an initial screen of all potential lessees.
- Next, we make sure that our lease contracts are very clear about trademark and copyright issues.
- We also offer legal services for domain owners in the event that an issue arises.
- Finally, we maintain complete control of the domains that are pointed to our DNS
23. How will submitted domains be verified that they actually belong to the person that offers it for lease?
User information has to match the whois and for private registration email verification will be required. Once a lease is requested we contact the owner and thoroughly verify all elements of ownership. Keep in mind that the DNS will have been switched for 30 days before any payment is issued to a domain owner so collecting money from a fraudulent domain lease is impossible.
24. How will LeaseThis.com handle spammers who are looking to use a leased domain?
Once a lease is agreed to by both parties, we collect payment from the advertiser and the DNS is changed to ns1.leasethis.com and ns2.leasethis.com. If at any point during the month there is abuse by the advertiser, we immediately terminate their lease. And if at any point the domain owner moves the DNS, we offer a full refund to the advertiser.
25. What are the security measures in place to protect the domain owner and the leasing party?
As described above we collect the money at the beginning of the month and release it at the end of the month to the domain owner. The main security measure in place for the advertiser is that they receive a full refund if the domain owner moves the DNS during the lease. The protection to the domain owner is that the DNS never switches from our servers and you are guaranteed payment.
26. Can you please tell me what is in place stop lessee's severely abusing domains?
We have strict guidelines in the contract that prevent a lessee from abuse of a domain or a domain name. Once notified of any abuse we would terminate the lease immediately and still provide payment to the domain owner.
27. How do you prevent advertisers from diminishing the value of a domain?
We have to approve the advertisers. In addition to this it is also a part of the contract that the advertiser can not devalue the domain. If the domain owner feels like the domains is being devalued, then they can contact us and we can resolve the issue or cancel the lease.
28. Do you take steps to prevent UDRP legal problems?
We have two full time attorneys on staff to handle any legal issues that may arise from leases. Our contracts have also been written to circumnavigate most potential issues involved in leasing a domain.
29. How do you handle outbound links to bad neighborhoods creating bad search problems for the domain?
Any time domain owners feel that an advertiser is misusing a domain, they can contact us and we will resolve it.
